It's official! Jeff and I will be going to Spring Training to see the Giants in Scottsdale. We're just doing a weekend, from March 7-9.
If anyone is going to be there and wants to meet up, let me know.
I'm also looking for dining and nightlife advice in the Phoenix area. I have never been to Phoenix before except to make connections at Sky Harbour.
Today, I did the unthinkable. I joined a new gym.
I love where I currently workout. But I don't go downtown for work anymore. And I just pay too much.
I will admit, I kind of wanted to cry when touring my new gym. It's not as nice as Equinox for sure. I mean, the SF Equinox is the old Pacific Stock Exchange. The locker rooms are in the old vault (with the giant vault door as the entryway). Equinox has a pool (which I never use) and a spa. I think they have double the cardio over Golds', and probably half the crowd. And let's not begin to compare the Castro crowd to my old businesspersons' downtown gym. I worked out at Equinox for three years, and it always felt like all the staff and a big chunk of the regular members recognized me.
So, why did I drop Equinox? One word. Money. Just on membership fees alone, I'm paying more than 80% off of what I paid before (I went from over $115 a month to $23 a month). And the training is nearly 45% off the price. I literally will save thousands per year. And it's in walking distance. When Jim was playing computer games on Saturday night, I kept thinking to myself that if I went to a gym I could walk to, I would probably exercise when he's engrossed in World of Warcraft.
Anyway, wish me luck in my new gym. I start with a trainer at the end of the month. I know he could never be as great as Arlene or Jeff where at Equinox, but I'm looking foward to spending time with Daniel when my back gets better.
I'm leaving tomorrow for a quick trip to Boston. The weather this weekend sounds tough there, but I know it will be fine by the time I get there. What I am not looking foward to, however, is the cold.
I'll try to get some photos while I'm there, but I tought I'd send some photos from right before my trip, here in San Francisco. Last Thursday, I took off a couple of hours early and met up with Sheri. I haven't seen Sheri for well over a year and a half, as she's been traveling all over the world for over the last 15 months.
Check out her blog. She has the most amazing stories to tell, and her photography is just amazing.
Anyway, we went and watched the sun go down at Ocean Beach. Here are some photos I took on my cell phone.
My friend Shawn sent this to me, and I thought it was pretty cool.
If they weren't sold out, I KNOW who would have gotten this for San Francisco. But it's good, I'm sure he would bitch aobut missing neighborhoods (like perhaps the Duboce Triangle). The first hood I looked for was the Dogpatch, and that's not there either.
Okay, I broke down and finally signed-up for Facebook. I swore I would never add another social networking site to my list, but I was getting sick of folks asking me if I had a Facebook page.
I still don't get what is the point of poking someone.
But what I am hoping will happen is that I started a group of Gay San Francisco Giants fans. I have always said that I wanted to find such a group, but I never found it. I can't believe that Jeff and I are the only ones out there...
Yup, we felt it. But no, nothing too serious.
Jamison was over, and we felt stonger than any other ones I have felt since I moved here. Well, maybe not stronger, but it lasted longer.
I got this email today from Sr. Barbi Mitzvah. I'm to excited to hear that bingo will soon be back!
Yes, it’s out of the Bag, but we are moving Bingo downtown. We hope to finalize our new space this week and start Bingo in a grand new hall complete with food, beverages and MORE games to make you win.
It’s been a long haul for a year trying to find a space and luckily people have come forward and offered us spaces even after the horrible publicity we received from Fox News, Bill O’Reillly and other news reports which fail to speak to us to find out what we really do.
The good news is that Bingo is coming back, and we can’t wait to start this up again. However, I think it is time we call it Resurrection Bingo instead. J
Hugs & Kisses,
Sr. Barbi Mitzvah
Bingo with the sisters is by far one of my favorite activities. I've even won an iPod Mini in past games. This is very exciting news!
Last night, Jeff and I went to hear Barry Bonds at the Commonwealth Club.
I've needed a little fix of baseball since the Giants' ended their season, so it was fun to go. I really never heard many Barry interviews before, but it was pretty much what I expected... a bit of humor and a bit of arrogance. But what can you say, he did accomplish a lot.
I was annoyed there weren't ANY controversial questions.
But it will be interesting to hear if we get an update on where Barry will be next year. I understand that nothing can be announced until at least 10 days after the world series.
The quote in today's Chronicle that totally summarized my thoughts of the evening:
"The evening, an hour-long conversation with KGO radio host Ray Taliaferro, was more a tribute to Bonds than an actual interview. Taliaferro, who all but blew kisses at the man he called a close friend, practically hyperventilated as he recited a list of Bonds' career accomplishments, including the all-time home run record he claimed from Hank Aaron this summer..."
It was surprising to see how poorly atteneded the event was. Originally, it was scheduled for Davies Symphony Hall, but ended up in a small ballroom at the Niko hotel. I guess Giants' fans aren't necessarily members of the Commonwealth Club.
** To get a cool look at the changes, go to my Flickr Slideshow, and play the 5 or so slides in a slideshow mode. **
Last night, Jamison and I sat atop Dolores Park to watch Lights Out San Francisco. While the light change wasn't super dramatic, key landmarks such as City Hall, The Transamerican Pyramid, The Ferry Building, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges turned off their lights for an hour, just many residents did at home (including me).
Check out the photos... pay close attention to the Bay Bridge on the right of the photos where you'll see the lights on the suspension span slowly go out.
Lights Out San Francisco is a citywide energy conservation event on Oct. 20, 2007. On this night, we invite the entire city of San Francisco to install one compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) and turn off all non-essential lighting for one hour.
It's an hour... I can handle it. I hope all my SF friends can too.
